Abstract

The article is published on the eve of the jubilee year for Russian gender studies — they mark 30 years. The emergence and development of gender studies in Russia is inextricably linked with the name of Natalia Mikhailovna Rimashevskaya. And the created by her Laboratory for Gender Studies successfully continues research based on the foundations of gender analysis of the Russian socio-economic reality laid down by her. In the article, written on the results of the 2018 study, a close attention is paid to the gender aspects of socio-demographic dynamics and health of Russians. Such areas as "gender medicine" and "gender pharmacology" have emerged relatively recently, but thanks to them, modern approach to analysis of public health could touch upon a variety of gender issues, without which further demographic development is hardly possible. The paper studies the consequences of increasing flexibility of the labor market and digitalization of the economy for women and men, as well as modern transformations of the Russian family, which give rise to new forms of relations between men and women in the private sphere. The main driver of the changes in Russian families for many decades remained women. Their mass entry into the labor market and social life were the main causes of the transformation of family structures and relations. Men also have begun to participate in the transformation of family relations, but only in recent years, that is reflected in the changing role of father in Russian family. The study was focused on the gender aspects of the problems caused by recent changes in the public and private life of Russians (after 2015). There was undertaken a gender analysis of the new challenges and risks in the field of demography and labor faced by modern Russian society. A special consideration is given to methodology of gender studies.
