Abstract
Objective of the research is the search for the basic foundations of the socio-techno-natural crisis.
The methodological basis of the research is an analysis of the paradoxes revealed during digitalization as the dominant scientific and technological doctrine today and during the introduction of the Digital Earth as an environment of global governance using the opposition of cataphotic and apophatic approaches and the semiotic method.
Results of the study. The signlessness of the Digital Earth is noted, the need to introduce the concept of “zero signs” in semiotics as alternative to carrier signs is substantiated. The limitations of the categorical (cataphotic) representation of reality in a form mediated by signs are shown, which does not allow making appropriate management decisions in the socio-techno-natural environment due to systematic distortion of the situation. The need for effective decision-making to take into account, along with the cataphotic, also the apophatic, which cannot be mediated by categories and signs, has been demonstrated. It is shown that this seemingly unattainable and paradoxical mode in digital control systems is successfully implemented in the Digital Earth due to the representation of the spatio-temporal environment in a sensually perceived form that is not mediated by signs. The incompatibility of the concepts of the Digital Earth and the “digital twin” is shown due to the exclusively symbolic nature of the latter. The incorrectness of the idea of quantitative measurability as a necessary management factor is demonstrated.
Research perspectives. The research has academic and applied perspectives. Academic prospects are associated with the development of problems of information carriers alternative to signs, the study of the semiotic aspect of management, the identification of approaches to overcoming the socio-techno-natural crisis through the harmonization of relations between the subject and the environment and the development of approaches to organizing expedient global management. Applied prospects are associated with the involvement of the Digital Earth in solving practical problems to overcome the socio-techno-natural crisis.
