Abstract
Objective of the study is to identify the main differences in the perception and choice of countries for potential migration and travel in the assessments of the X, Y, Z generation groups of modern Russians.
The methodological basis of the research was the results of a sociological survey conducted by the team of the Southern Russian Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2023. The sample population of the study consisted of representatives of student youth in Taganrog. The basis of this work was the sociological project of B. A. Grushin “Four Lives of Russia in the Mirror of Public Opinion Polls”, in particular the work on the “Taganrog Project”, aimed at identifying the opinions of residents of Taganrog about foreign life.
The foundation for describing generations was the classification of age groups described by V. V. Radaev.
Research results. As part of this study, it was revealed that there is a difference in ideas about the most attractive countries in the world among representatives of different generational groups. The X-generation, the eldest of those represented, prefer countries with a rich cultural and historical heritage, choosing this criterion as one of the key reasons for a possible trip, and also lean toward states that have built friendly relations with Russia. People belonging to the Y-generation give preference to countries where there is a good chance to reveal their career potential, where the industry, services and services are developed. And representatives of the Z-generation prioritize the sphere of leisure, entertainment and the life of young people as guidelines for choosing the “ideal” of the country. Also, modern youth pays attention to countries with a high level of development of science, technology and innovation.
Research рerspectives. The materials obtained during the work could play an important role in understanding the existing ideas about foreign countries among representatives of different generation groups and the prevailing stereotypes associated with life in these places. In addition, this topic has practical significance for developing strategies not only for intergenerational interaction, but also the potential for establishing intercultural communication and preventing conflicts on interethnic and intercultural grounds.
