Abstract

Objective of the study is to study the socio-philosophical and sociological analysis of the phenomenon of art.   The methodological basis of the research on the comparative method, historical method and the concept of modernization.  Results of the study. The article presents an overview of existing research approaches to art as a social phenomenon in modern science. It is concluded that the socio-analytical approach to the study of art in the second half of the twentieth century is inclined mainly to various forms of constructivism. The phenomenon of “art” is constructed by ideas about what art is under the influence of factors “external” to artistic activity itself. With its current institutional autonomy, expressed in the existence of specialized organizational structures that produce and distribute works of art, art is closely connected with other institutions in its very essence. Characteristic of the above-described understanding of art is the indication of the connection of art with market and political mechanisms, which, in our opinion, reflects not so much the essence of art as the specificity of its status in modern societies. Results of the study the work will be useful for studying the influence of cultural changes on the understanding of the functions of art in modern societies.
