Abstract

Objective of the study is to show the criteria for choosing natural science methods and terms that are most suitable for explaining socially significant processes. The methodological basis of the research includes the following methods: comparative, classification, structural, hermeneutics, functional. The totality and combination of these methods are adequate to the goals and objectives, object and subject of the study of this work.   Research results. During the study, it turned out that the physical methods and terms highlighted by Conte received an instrumental function within the framework of sociology, and evolutionism was needed to explain social processes by analogy with biological ones. For a more accurate representation of the structure of these processes, their classification is proposed in the work. Conte's methods turned out to be unable to meet the challenges of the information society, and therefore sociology, which initially performed a predictive and preventive-anticipatory function, shows passivity in conditions of constantly accelerating scientific and technological progress. Prospects of the study determine the further solution of the problem of social and humanitarian sciences and bringing them to a new level of development.
