Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the types of hybrid identities of diasporic groups in the South of Russia in terms of ensuring national security. The methodological basis of the study. A sociological study was conducted in 2023-2024. It was carried out using a standardized questionnaire survey among eight ethnic groups (Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Turks, Georgians, Germans, Greeks, Poles and Jews) in five regions of the South of Russia (the Rostov Region, the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Crimea, the Republic of Adygea and Sevastopol). There were 14 211 respondents in total. The results of the study. As a result of the analysis of the collected data, the predominantly hybrid (flexible) nature of the ethnic identity of the respondents is identified. The combination of all identification states of the studied groups can be characterized as a multiple, rather than a multilevel, identification matrix. The author managed to classify the hybrid identity of the South Russian diasporas according to three basic types of identification matrix. The first hybrid type is manifested in the regionalization of ethnicity, in the emphasized identification of the group and its culture with the regional society. The second hybrid type is manifested in a steady trend of “Russification” of ethnicity, in which the predicate of diaspora or ethnicity includes the marker “Russia’s” or “Russian” (for example, “Russia’s Germans”, “Russian Poles”, etc.). The third hybrid type of diaspora identification is manifested in the relevance of ethnicity and the increasing association of representatives of the diaspora with the state of title belonging even if there is no experience of residence or the fact of emigration from the territory. Two of  the three types of diaspora matrices do not meet the goals of implementing the state national policy of the Russian Federation – the second and the third types. The most adequate type of identification behavior for the purposes of the state national policy of Russia is the first type of identification matrix. Its popularization can ensure the harmonization of interethnic relations without losing the multicultural identity of the South of Russia. Prospects of the study are related to further analysis of the identities of diaspora groups in the South of Russia, in order to develop recommendations on the adaptation of regional programs of the state national policy to the ethnocultural specifics of a particular society; in order to increase the culture of civic participation of representatives of all ethnic groups in solving regional and local issues of socio-economic and cultural development of the territories.
