Abstract
The objective of the study is to consider the institution of mediation as a priority area of state policy in resolving citizens' conflicts, as well as determining the place of mediation procedures in the system of alternative dispute resolution methods in Russia; to summarize the results of mediation on the example of the Rostov region and to identify the development trends nowadays.
Methodological basis of the study consists of the analysis of accumulated statistical data on the peaceful settlement procedures; the generalization of observations; the analysis of academic literature, as well as the comparative sociological and legal analysis.
Results of the study. At the present stage mediation has problems due to insufficient awareness of the population and incomplete regulation, which creates difficulties for its widespread application. This is due to the emergence of a mentality in Russian society aimed at improving reputation and stabilizing interpersonal relations. In addition, the development of the popularization of this institution could lead to significant shifts in the work of mediation associations and the involvement of a significant part of the population in a peaceful settlement, combined with the suppression of conflicts at their initial stage.
Prospects of the study. At the present stage the institution of mediation is of key importance for the further development of society. Government policy, as well as the significant changes in civil society, increasingly contribute to the development of this procedure in all spheres of life. It is worth noting the involvement of the scientific and practical community in these processes. The alternative dispute resolution generates interest and engages a wide range of people, determining the effectiveness of its application in the future.
