Abstract
Objective of the research is to analyse the functions of ChatGPT and application of AI by teachers and students in educational process.
The methodological basis of the research. The chosen research methods are analysis, comparison, interview, survey and questionnaire.

The analysis concluded that students are active and confident users of artificial intelligence, using it for a variety of purposes - from finding the necessary information to selecting illustrations for presentations. Higher education teachers are significantly behind their students in their skills in working with ChatGPT, which leads to a decrease in student motivation.
Prospects of the study. The practical significance lies in understanding the current situation with the work of participants in the educational process with AI. The analysis allows us to come to the conclusion about the need to improve the qualifications of the faculty in the application of the latest technologies.
