Abstract
Objective of the study. The aim of the study is to reconstruct the formation and development of cultural studies as an independent field of knowledge, scientific and academic discipline, developed at the Rostov State (Southern Federal) University by its outstanding scientists. The fundamental ideas of the Rostov cultural studies school and their contribution to Russian education are explicated.
Methodological basis of the study is the activity concept of culture and the “anthropological turn” in understanding the relationship between “nature” and “culture”, allowing us to focus on man as a transformer of nature, creator and maker. Semiotic analysis becomes an addition to the activity concept and allows us to reconstruct the main models of storage, transmission and renewal of social experience.
Results of the study. The authors reconstruct the ideas of outstanding scientists of the Rostov school – Yu. A. Zhdanov, V. E. Davidovich, M. K. Petrov, which formed the basis of the science of culture. The problems of the development of ideas about culture, the demarcation with philosophy and the transition to the theory of culture, the relationship “nature – man – culture” are considered as basic ones.
Prospects of the study. Of particular importance is the scientific problematic, for highlighting as the main theme – “European cultural tradition and us”, including for the civilizational self-determination of Russia
