Abstract
Objective of the study is to conceptualize the life world of engineering university students in the process of reforming Russian higher education as well as taking into account the opportunities for professional growth in the region.
Methodological basis of the study is the sociology of life and the life world. Based on the provisions of the structural and functional theory, the motivational subsystem of the personality structure is identified as a set of motives and attitudes to professional action. The neo-institutional approach allows to explore students’ life world through their behavioral practices, value orientations that ensure the achievement of individual goals in harmonious balance with public interests. The works of Russian scientists devoted to the specifics of the educational process in connection with the personal characteristics of modern students are used.
Results of the study. The combination of the advantages of the sociology of life, structural and functional theory, and institutional approaches has the cognitive potential to build conceptual foundations for studying the life world and building a personality model for a new engineer. Some additions are proposed and the personality model of the creative engineer is adjusted, taking into account the opinions of employers and updating the indicators of professional culture. Promising technologies for early integration of students into the business process have been identified.
Prospects of the study involve studying the dynamics of professionally significant personality traits of creative engineers related to their willingness to become active participants in the implementation of promising areas of technological leadership of the Russian state, as well as the analysis of the social practices of universities aimed at the creation of the conditions for career growth and meeting the students’ vital needs.
