Abstract
In this article the mechanisms of escalation of ethnic tensions in migration processes are described. The characteristics of modern migration processes on the post-Soviet space and the influence on the perception of their ethnic identity of migrants and the indigenous population are analyzed. In the article an approach for the analysis of situations connected with the ethnic identity transformations is presented. Some ethnic identity transformation laws such as the dependence on the size of ethnic groups, as well as the level of tolerance to migrants in the host environment are discussed.
