Abstract
In the article the specifics of functioning and development of the Institute of continuing vocational education as the space for professional competence and labour functions formation of future workers of various modern economy sectors in Russia is analyzed. The conclusion is that the concept "continuing professional education" should be used in socio-economic discourse. It emphasizes the functional specificity of knowledge the ensuring of continuous updating of professional knowledge and skills, and the focus on the continuity of learning process in the professional sphere is made. It is noted that the problem of convergence of the Federal State Educational Standards 3+ and professional standards can be solved by the following process: select a set of kinds of professional activities, define their respective competence, and create a level description of competences descriptors by the labor activity.
