Abstract
Some features of civil religion and its role in present-day Russia are considered in this article. The author appreciates the civil religion as a kind of “secular sacred” and as a distinct from sacralization of the state and political power. He analyzes its role in secular and post-secular societies, as well as its interrelations with secular culture, on the one hand, and traditional religions, on the other hand. The author emphasizes the importance of civil religion in the big, complex, heterogeneous societies, such as Russian one, namely for sustaining social unity and common civil identity.
