Abstract
The results of the 13th Conference of the European Sociological Association held this year in Greece (Athens) are analyzed, proposed new theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of the complex crises of the European Union, the possibility of creating its updated model in the context of the three main challenges it faced . Among them: 1) the collapse of the basic principles of neo-liberal capitalism, the consequences of which born the contradictions that led to unprecedented inequalities between people, the undermining of the existential values of freedom and human security, the functions of the social state; 2) the fragmentation of European solidarities, the emergence of new protest movements, whose representatives oppose neo-racism, anti-Semitism, require the authorities to develop effective measures to combat global terrorism; 3) the emergence tendencies of desubjectivization, which are due to the apathy, depressions, "liquid fear", the commodification of human relations. The participants of the Forum not only carried out complex diagnostics of the emerged challenges, but also offered some therapeutic means for "treating" the dehumanized social realities, giving them original theoretical grounds, expressing practical considerations.
