Abstract

The key issues addressed in the article are the following: what ethnic groups cause the greatest rejection of the carriers of intolerant attitudes, How can ethnophobia and migran- tophobia be compared, How does the attitude towards certain ethnic groups and migrants change? The author uses a wide empirical basis for the analysis: the data about the South of Russia, 24 and 17 waves of the Russian Monitoring of the Economy and Health of the Population - RLMS-HSE (2015 and 2008 years), as well as the results of qualitative research conducted by the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in four regions of the South of Russia in 2015-2017. The population is most wary of the people from the North Caucasus, Central Asia, the South Caucasus. It is shown that the respondents with different attitudes of tolerance / intolerance (tolerant, hesitant, hypo-intolerant and hyper- intelerant) significantly differ according to their attitudes towards the "visible minorities". It is concluded that ethnic tolerance or intolerance is a key indicator of the attitudes towards migrants. In the South of Russia, the level of ethnophobia and migrant phobia is decreasing, but the alertness to the representatives of certain "visible minorities" is stable and have latent forms.
