Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of contemporary socio-political problems in Russia and Ukraine, which changed significantly after the Crimea joined the Russian Federation. On the basis of a comparative analysis, the possible development prospects of these states are predicted. The main hypothesis of the study: improving relations between Russia and Ukraine in the near future is not anticipated. This will happen only after the change of political elites and the decriminalization of public authorities, the entry into politics of intellectuals.
