Abstract
The article shows that in Russian society, the manifestation of values of prestige and status in practices of demonstrative consumption is prescribed by the fact that the consumption as a differentiating activity is determined by the system of prestige-status values. The consumption forms a certain image and lifestyle. The space of demonstrative consumption is the field of systematic production of values of prestige and status as the signs in a particular social and cultural environment.
