Abstract
The article shows that the nature of violence is changing at an accelerating rate. It acquires more and more complex content, accordingly, modern confrontation in the international arena is realized not only by military, but also by non-military, socio-cultural means. Specifically, the changes in the concepts of strategic deterrence, applied both in the West and in our country, are analyzed. Their essence lies in the fact that military and non-military strategic means are used systematically and comprehensively. The role of ideology and values, as non-military means, contributing, however, to the realization of the country's political interests, is particularly disclosed. It is concluded that the success of Russia's foreign policy activities will be determined by the availability and effective use of a variety of non-military power assets in the future.
