The Invention and Reconstruction of Traditions in Modern Societies

Abstract

The article analyzes the phenomenon of tradition and its forms of existence in modern societies. The article considers the most significant approaches to understand traditions, traces the dynamics of ideas about the role of traditions in modern societies. It is shown that in modern societie’s tradition it exists in three main forms – the real preserved tradition, as well as the invented and reconstructed traditions. The complexity of a clear distinction between real and invented traditions is noted. The author believes that the existence of tradition in modern societies is a constant process of its construction – as part of the General construction of social reality.
