Abstract
The author based on the criteria of the universalist style of thinking proposed by V.I. Vernadsky, shows the characteristic features of Yu.A. Zhdanov - a universal scientist (theorist, experimenter, poet). His essential features of were the versatility of the individual and a holistic view of the natural world and human culture. He is characterized as an outstanding teacher, guided by the principle “teaching - research”. Based on the examples of his management of the largest university in the country, being the rector of RSU, Yu.A. Zhdanov is described as an outstanding organizer of science and education, who was able to see the prospects for the development of fundamental and applied science. Being the Chairmen of the SKSC Scientific Center for thirty years, he was able to solve the most complex theoretical and practical problems of combining science and education with the development issues in the South of Russia.
