Abstract
The article defines the promising ways and directions of the development of modern Russian professional sport, the main task of which is the transition to a fundamentally different model of functioning of the respective clubs, based on the market mechanisms. The author notes that modern Russian professional sport needs significant transformations, changes in the principles of functioning of the main subjects of professional sports activity. Market mechanisms, involving the reliance of professional teams on fans as the most important source of funding, along with the orientation of the club management to train their students in various organizations of sports training should be at the heart of the activities of professional sport clubs.
