Abstract
The article shows that the positioning of demonstrative consumption in Russian social reality is linked to the phenomenon of glamor, which is a mentality, style and way of life, emphasizing the focus on prestige and status, and reflecting the contradictions of the sharp transition from ascetic consumption of the Soviet era to the overconsumption. Demonstrative and outsideness consumption construct the basis of glamor, which inevitably implies publicity, clarity, and ostentatious demonstration, with the demonstrative external environment. At the same time, the very phenomenon of glamor in the coordinates of consumption is closely linked to such types of demonstrative and outsideness consumption, such as the acquisition of luxury goods, shopping, defiantly conspicuous consumption of leisure and others. The glamor discourse is an essential phenomenon of modern social reality as a reality threatening the spiritual security of Russian society.
