Abstract
The important problems and prospects of Islamic studies in the south of Russia are analyzed. The influence of Yu.A. Zhdanova on the formation and development of Islamic studies at the Southern Federal University is demonstrated. The importance and necessity of Islamic studies to prevent terrorism is noted.
