Abstract

Service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is the most important state task and has priority social importance. The prestige of military service is growing, as evidenced by the influx of young people in military commissariats. Interest in military service is shown not only by young men, but also by girls. However, the problem is that young people have a very low awareness of military service in a career-oriented way. The relevance of the problem is determined by its lack of development in relation to modern conditions. It is established that among the youth there is an understanding of the need to strengthen the defense capacity of the state (97%). At the same time, 31% of all respondents would like to serve in the army on conscription, contract or enter a military school. Young people know and understand the need to strengthen the defense capability. At the same time, every third person is ready to serve in the Armed Forces after graduation. But it is this circumstance that draws attention to a more responsible attitude to the organization and conduct of military orientation work among high school students. The fact is that such work is carried out irregularly, from time to time and its effectiveness is low.To determine the specifics of military professional orientation of young people to serve in the armed forces of the Russian Federation, it is necessary to find out what is the social value of this type of professional activity. Military service is presented as a socially necessary activity and therefore it becomes attractive to young people. Military service is a special kind of public service and therefore it is a powerful social Elevator, which is recognized by young people as a social value. The social value of service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation should be considered from the standpoint of its importance for society (as a social institution) and for the individual (as a specific type of activity). This understanding of the social value of the military service itself is also recognized by young people as an important and necessary period of personal development.
