Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of urbanization and its impact on the ecology of a modern city. The author explores the risks of urbanization that lead to disruption of the ecological balance in the system nature - economy - society. The author analyzes new trends in urbanization due to the process of globalization and the emergence of modern megacities. The basic principles of sustainable development of the urban environment are considered.
