Abstract

The article is devoted to the unique phenomenon of domestic and, possibly, world culture of the late XX - early XXI century - creation in a short historical period, in a non-capital city that did not have its own opera and ballet tradition, a theater, which is now one of the five strongest opera houses in the country and performs with triumph on prestigious stages on different continents. The article also touches upon the appearance in Russia of musical comedy and the stationary operetta theater, from which the Rostov Musical Theater grew. The issue of the theater's influence on changing the spiritual and moral climate of the Rostov region and creating its image as a cultural center of the South of Russia is also considered.
