Abstract
The peculiarity of demonstrative consumer practices in Russian society lies in the fact that these practices are mainly implemented in the format of imitation. Imitation practices permeate the fabric of social relations - political, economic, leisure and even educational, when education itself is considered in terms of demonstrating a certain social status without an internal need for it and real educational efforts and practices during the period of educational activity. It is concluded that the spread of demonstrative behavior in Russian society is an expression of the imitative component of its socio-cultural dynamics.
