Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the resource potential of social consolidation in the South of Russia and the problems of its implementation in the context of regional development’s modern realities. The methodological basis of the research was grounded on the provisions of the spatial approach to the study of the region and regional processes, the theory of social conjunction and the resource approach as one of the most important in the study of Russian regions in the spatial paradigm. Research results brought to the key conclusion that the South of Russia had significant social resources derived from its diversity – ethnic, cultural, confessional and communicative. However, that resources faced to the context of modern realities, were not fully transformed into social capital from the point of view of the usefulness and achievement of consolidating the regional space goals. Prospects of the study are associated with sociological understanding of the consolidation potential factors and it’s destruction in the South Russian region, formed at the intersection of ethnic, cultural traditions and interethnic interaction.
