Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the expert discourse on the problem of strengthening the Russian civil identity in the North Caucasian republican societies. Methodological basis of the research: the study uses a moderately constructivist approach to the theoretical understanding of the political and cultural community “Russian nation” (“Rossiane”). The collection of empirical data was carried out by the method of expert interviews. Research results. It is revealed that the thematic discourse about the Russian nation (“Rossiane”) in the North Caucasian regional societies, on the one hand, reflects fears of losing their ethnic and cultural identities in the process of building a single political and cultural community. On the other hand, there remains considerable skepticism regarding the very possibility of forming a single nation capable of absorbing all the ethno-cultural diversity of the country. In the North Caucasian regional societies, there is a demand for further integration within the framework of the all-Russian civil nation, while maintaining the conditions for supporting the ethno-cultural identity of all Russian ethnic communities by the state. Prospects for the study. Scientific research on the problem of strengthening the all-Russian civic consciousness both in the country as a whole and in the North Caucasian republics will not lose its relevance.
