Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the causes and nature of the process of public consciousness radicalization and the spread of the extremism ideology.   The methodological basis of the research consists of a behaviorist methodological approach used in the analysis of the echo chamber effect in interactive interpersonal communication; a structural and functional methodological approach used to uncover Internet communication as a potential means of public consciousness radicalization and a systematic methodological approach that allows us to consider the design of social networks used by extremist organizations.   Research results are presented by 1) a conclusion about the potential of Internet communication for public consciousness management; 2) a conclusion about the emergence of the echo chamber effect in the technical conditions of the modern Internet environment; 3) a conclusion about the existence of a tendency to archaize public consciousness in the process of interactive interpersonal communication with its simultaneous radicalization and the spread of extremist ideology. Prospects for the study unfold in the form of an analysis of the current state of extremism and the specifics of the Internet communication use by extremist organizations in order to radicalize public consciousness.
