Abstract
Objective of the study is the phenomenon of demonstrative consumption in modern Russian society.
Methodological basis of the research consists of a constructivist approach, a phenomenological description of consumer practices of actors and a socio-cultural study of the historical and cultural context of its formation.
Research results. The article examines the phenomenon of demonstrative consumption in modern Russian society, formulates the main approaches to its study within the framework of a methodological scheme that includes a constructivist approach, a phenomenological description of consumer practices of actors and a socio-cultural study of the historical and cultural context of its formation. The author substantiates the research effectiveness of this methodological scheme, analyzes on its basis the specifics of demonstrative consumption as a symbolic language of modern individualistic culture, explores in a broad historical and cultural context the socio-cultural factors of the formation and spread of demonstrative consumption in modern Russian society, shows that demonstrative consumption is a strategy of self-construction of personal identity in a reduced format.
Prospects of the study. Demonstrative consumption at the mass level is a feature of the current postmodern world, and its study opens access to a deeper understanding of the social and cultural essence of the processes of modernity.
