Abstract

Objective of the study – analysis of the ideas of modern youth in the South of Russia about the ways of employment that allows them to achieve professional success, as well as about the main factors that have the greatest impact on career growth.   The methodological basis of the research is presented by the results of a sociological study carried out by the staff of the South Russian branch of the Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The research method is a questionnaire.   Research results. The ideas of modern youth about successful employment are based on the understanding that success depends more on their own efforts. But at the same time, a significant part of the representatives of the younger generation believe that successful employment is impossible without the patronage of relatives or friends. The main reasons for recognizing the importance of the help of relatives in the process of job search are highlighted: national and family traditions, as well as employment «by protection». The highest frequency of continuation of family professional traditions (professional dynasties) was recorded among young scientists and graduate students. Young people in the South of Russia prefer to look for a stable job, which at the same time should imply the possibility of changing it if necessary. The main factors of building a successful career have been identified, according to representatives of the modern young generation. The first places in this hierarchy are occupied by factors directly related to their own efforts and abilities.   Research prospects. The results of the conducted sociological research can become the basis for further study of professional socialization and behavior of modern youth in the labor market. Also, the empirical data obtained and the highlighted trends can be used in the work of career centers in universities.
