Abstract

Objective of the study is a sociological analysis of the main directions of the development of mass sports as a social institution in modern Russian society and the allocation of conditions for increasing the number of people involved in mass sports and recreational activities. Methodological basis of the research consists of the principles of institutional and activity approaches. The work also used the analysis of materials obtained by state statistical bodies, the content of normative legal acts on various components of mass sports, materials of domestic mass media in the field of sports and physical culture, as well as a secondary analysis of data from All-Russian sociological studies on the problems of mass sports development in modern Russia and the formation of a healthy lifestyle of various categories of the population countries. Research results is the position according to which mass sport acts as an important means of improving the health of individuals involved in it, increasing their efficiency, the ability to effectively adapt to the conditions of a constantly changing external environment, however, the level of involvement of representatives of various socio-demographic groups in mass sports is uneven and is due to objective and subjective factors. Prospects of the study are related to the further scientific study of the institute of mass sports in modern Russian society and the identification of promising ways and means of involving the adult population of our country in sports and recreation activities carried out on a regular basis.
