Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the current state of tourist activity of the older generation of the Rostov region and to develop measures to increase it based on overcoming barriers to the implementation of tourist practices. The methodological basis of the research is based on the structuralist-constructivist approach of P. Bourdieu, the concept of social exclusion by H. Silver, the theory of generations by W. Strauss and N. Howe and the generational approach of V. V. Radaev. The empirical basis of the work was the results of the author's research in 2022: 16 in-depth interviews with people aged 60 to 83 years living in the Rostov region; data from a mass questionnaire survey of the population of the Rostov region 60–79 years (N = 425 people). Research results. Due to the existence of a number of barriers, the needs of the older generation of the Rostov region in tourist practices are not fully realized: during the year preceding the questionnaire survey, only 28.6% of respondents traveled, and a third of respondents have not made tourist trips for more than 5 years and are included in the group of tourist exclusion. The proposed set of measures to increase the tourist activity of the older generation through the impact on the barriers to the implementation of tourist practices is aimed at narrowing the group of tourist exclusion, increasing the accessibility of tourist practices for the older generation and includes measures of a regulatory, informational, economic, infrastructural nature. Prospects of the study related to the study of tourist practices of the older generation living in boarding schools and nursing homes.
