Abstract
Objective of the study is to consider theoretical ideas about the phenomenon of parenthood and models of child-parent relationships in modern society that have developed in social science.
Research methodology. The phenomenon and typology of parenting models is considered from the position of structural-functionalist and social-constructivist methodological approaches.
Results of the study. In social theory, the phenomenon of parenthood is interpreted in different ways: as a function, role, state of consciousness and identity, model of behavior or social institution. Typological models of parenting are differentiated based on the level of control and emotional acceptance; distribution of parental functions and degree of identification with the parental role; the effects of well-being or dysfunction in relation to the child's socialization; indicators of the intensity of the parental role and the level of child-centrism.
Research Perspectives. The variety of conceptual approaches to the study of the phenomenon of parenthood reflect the sociocultural and historical dynamics of views on parental roles and functions and the ever-increasing social significance of issues of parent-child relationships.
