Abstract

The initial grounds of the article is the point that adaptation in the modern risk society is associated with daily "fuzzy" threats and becomes a permanent process. This process does not flow smoothly but in discrete steps: a new risk appears and requires a response such as formation of individual safety status. An individual is forced to concentrate all his resources in order to learn how to live with this new environmental factor, or displace it from his daily life as a result of protest activity. The article analyzes the data of two studies: one has been carried out in a community which is mobilizing resources for adaptation to a new risk; the other has been carried out in a community living under daily risks. The target populations selected for analysis are the young and older people. Hypothetically, it is assumed that there is specificity of factors used by representatives of these population groups for adaptation to daily and acute risks. An analysis of empirical data has revealed both similarities and differences between the factors used by the designated target group representatives for safety status formation. Interpretation of the data is summarized in the resulting part of the article.
