Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the social mood in Vologda Region in the 2014-2015 economic crisis period. Changes in the regional economy and living standards, and the dynamics of social perception of socio-economic processes in this period are characterized. The information base for the study was data from monitoring public opinion of inhabitants of Vologda Region and official statistics.The social mood of inhabitants of the region is primarily determined by the material factor. However, in 2014-2015, despite the economic crisis and deterioration of the financial situation, the social mood remained at 2013 pre-crisis level. The study revealed the reasons for this situation: firstly, the crisis of 2014-2015 was less profound than previous crises (1998-1999 and 2008-2009); secondly, the crisis of 2014-2015 began in a more prosperous situation in terms of social well-being of Russians and their perception of their financial situation than in the two previous crises; thirdly, due to the return of the Crimea to Russia, the process of consolidation intensified, especially in the face of external threats; fourthly, citizens are used to living in a crisis. A significant proportion of the population is in a state of chronic crisis, and the situation today is hard for them, but not new. Adapting to the crisis is due replacing more expensive products with cheaper ones, and better quality ones with products of lower quality.
