Abstract

This article analyzes how and why students choose a higher education institution, what are their values and goals. The problem of motivation is justified as a key point in the education policy of a higher education institution. According to the article, the most critical problem of higher education institutions is determining their goals in the context of modern society and governmental situation. The article analyzes the dynamics of choice factors applied studies based on the data from Moscow Power Engineering Institute and rates these choice factors according to the role they play in the selection of a higher education institution by students. The article shows the correlation between the students’ choice factors and the quality of education offered by the institution. It is justified that applied sociological research of choice factors and value-based goals will be efficient only if the institution will apply the results to its PR and advertising strategy targeting the consumers of education services.
