Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of integration possibilities of Russia in the space of the modern world-system. The analysis of this problem is relevant in the context of solving the tasks repeatedly outlined by Russian President V.V. Putin to create a multipolar and more egalitarian world order. There was a comparative analysis of the integration possibilities of modern Russia and the Soviet Union. As a result, factors were identified that explain the differences in the strength of the integration potential of the Soviet Union and modern Russia. First, the Soviet Union had an internal economic driver of integration – the need to create a system of division of labor that was relatively autonomous from the capitalist world-economy. The flight of capital from the periphery during the collapse of the colonial system contributed to the success of the integration processes of the USSR. Unlike the Soviet Union, the economic well-being of modern Russia depended on the success of its struggle for the most advantageous niche in the international division of labor and the displacement of its competitors from it. External conditions do not contribute to the creation of a broad anti-systemic bloc, since there is no large-scale outflow of capital from non-core countries of the world system. Secondly, the ideology of the Soviet Union was a continuation of one of the directions of geoculture, consequently its ideas and values met the challenges of the time and had global significance. The ideas of Eurasianism do not have such a scale, but they can become one of the foundations for the formation of the identity of Russian citizens. Thirdly, the rupture of the networks of unequal exchange between revolutionary Russia and the core was accompanied by a change in its elites. Russia's current break with the core is the result of contradictions in the «embedding» strategy. It is fraught with a split in the elites that is dangerous for the stability of power.
Keywords:
world-system approach, embedding, geoculture, Eurasianism, split of elites
