Abstract

This article examines the influence of elites on the process of modernization of the Russian political system. It analyzes how internal and external factors, such as economic crises, social movements, and international relations influence the actions of elites and their ability to adapt. The author pays a particular attention to the interaction of various elite groups, to their interests and conflicts, and their possibility both facilitate and hinder the modernization process.
