Abstract

The modern art of shamail (or, as a number of researchers call it, Tatar shamail) is the easel art of Muslims of the peoples of Russia, which differs in many ways from the art of shamail at the time of its appearance (late 19th – early 20th centuries). The work proposes to briefly familiarize yourself with the most common subjects in modern shamails using the example of the works of modern artists, consider the issues of evolution (or degradation) of subjects in shamails, and try to understand the reasons for this kind of change in the style of this art form. For what reason the art of shamail became so popular and during what period it happened? What trends in the development of Islam in Russia modern Shamails reflect and whether they reflect them? What is the fundamental difference between the so-called classical shamails of the late 19th – early 20th centuries? Do modern shamails continue the same traditions and ideas that existed in shamails a century ago? The work uses shamails from the catalog «Shamail-art. Tradition, classics, avant-garde» (2022), which is currently the only published current catalog of shamails, including shamails of modern authors.
Keywords:
