Abstract
The article deals with the problems of the relationship of the Buddhist Church and state under the conditions of transformation of Russian society in the late 1980s - early 1990s. This period is entered into the history of Buddhism as a time of radical change in religious policy of the country. Changes in the political situation, the formation of a new legal framework of relations between Church and state have created completely different conditions for development of the Buddhist faith.
