Abstract
The article analyses the influence of Internet technologies on the content and direction of the interethnic communication, its positive and negative effects. On the one hand, the global net gives the unlimited opportunities to find information about different cultures, to learn any language, to communicate with the representatives of different ethnic groups either inside one country or at the level of international relations. But on the other hand, the Internet obliterates the borders of ethnic identity unifying information with the help of the virtual encoding system. Therefore, traditions, customs and languages are exposed to transformation, and it leads to the change of culture. Moreover, interethnic communication loses the aspects of direct participation and emotional influence. As a result the significance of the ethnicity increases. It's worth mentioning, that this tendency is more typical for the young generation. Besides, different extremism and nationalistic organizations use the Internet to promote their ideas.
