Abstract
The article considers the mechanism of formation of a new self-determination of Russians through the break-up of the Soviet ethos and transition to the Russian one. Breaking of old ethos happens not only through changes in the societal system, but also in non-system entities, connected by common name of life world and including the diversity of human existence, life practices of ordinary people. It also goes through the management of human behavior by a word used predominantly in a negative sense, i.e. by stigmatization
