Abstract
The article examines the contradictions in the ruling circles of the Russian Empire, related to disagreements about future policy in China and, primarily, in Manchuria; an attempt to reconstruct the details of Russian-British relations in the Far East in the early 20th century is made. The author presents the comparative analysis of ways of enslaving China by Russian and British political circles, industrial and financial groups in the Far East. At the beginning of the 20th century the north-east China, Manchuria primarily, was the area of interests of the great powers – Russia and England. Construction and organization of the traffic on the CER required significant resources and financial influences. The situation was complicated by the fact that the UK prevented Russia in solving these issues. China had an ambiguous position: on the one hand, this country was interested in political and financial support from Russia, but at the same time China feared the excessive gain of Russia in Manchuria. Special fear of both China and the Western countries was the threat of Russian annexation of this territory.
