Abstract
The article analyzes the challenges and risks of the formation of the national-state identity of Russia. The author forms the principles and approaches that allow responding adequately to challenges and minimizing the risks. The special focus is on the problem of the choice of the model (vector) of identification, on capabilities and limitations of its conscious design, on the impact of the formation of national identity and cultural differences of peoples, who live in the Russian Federation, and on social stratification in the society.
