Abstract
The article examines the transformation of the ideals of constitutionalism in the political Islam. The emphasis is made on the analysis of the constitutional project of the Islamist organization «Hizbut-Tahrir al-Islami». The author concludes that the heterogeneous doctrinal base of this political structure shows genetic links with the ideals of European modernism, which appears in a mutated form. It is argued in favor of the thesis that this project represents a sample of a pseudo-constitutionalism, which is used to conceal reactionary character of the political ideology of Hizbut-Tahrir, trying to exploit the people`s disappointment in democracy caused by ineffective governments, but not having ability to ignore the unpleasantness of archaic authoritarian ideas for modern society. The study demonstrates the selectivity of the ideologists of Hizbut-Tahrir in relation to the heritage of political thought of Sunni Islam of the classical period, in particular ignoring shared by Hanafi, Maliki and the biggest part of Shafi`i scholars positions about «closing of the gates of ijtihad» and doctrines of the most famous Shafiit`s jurists.
