Abstract
The phenomenon of patriotism is analyzed in the article. The authors describe how this concept came into the national literary and political discourse of the 19th century. The authors demonstrate how the patriotic course of action may be represented in the value system of any scientist and how it affects on his social behavior and then on formation of the national scientific tradition. The empirical base of the paper is orientation on activities of A.G. Stoletov, P.N. Lebedev and S.I. Vavilov.
