Abstract
The article discusses the activities of the Russian Red Cross Society (ROKK) and its local branch in Simbirsk during the crop failures in the Middle Volga. The article considers the history of ROKK as a public charity, and its special role in helping needy during crop failures in the Middle Volga. The author notes that in the analyzed period the activities of the local administration of the Russian Red Cross Society, and the various agencies working in Simbirsk province under the auspices of ROKK provided significant and timely assistance during the period of bad harvests and established an extensive network of benevolent organizations and associations in the province.
