Abstract
A distinctive feature of social work with older people in the United States of America in the late 20th - early 21st centuries is the intensive development of the «third sector»that is NGOs and associations working with persons of the third age, or organizing activities aimed at improvement of social work with this category of population. The author proposes classification of public institutions (based on the volunteer activity of public associations in the United States), organizing social work with the citizens of the third age. The article considers productive areas of work with vulnerable groups, one of which is «occupational therapy».
